Podcast 27 - H.P. Lovecraft Roundtable Discussion

September 26th, 2007 by rochester92

“That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons, even death may die.”

Cthulhu

H.P. Lovecraft is considered by many, myself included, to be the ultimate supernatural and horror fiction writer. Joining me to discuss his work and life are Tracy R. Twyman, Kent Daniel Bentkowski, and Todd Campbell.

We talk about how we came to know and love his stories, their relevance, and their effects. Lovecraft’s work has inspired incredible creative energy over time, including artwork and grimoires. Join us for this fascinating conversation.

“Lovecraft1″ by Michael Whelan

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

“Theosophists have guessed at the awesome grandeur of the cosmic cycle wherein our world and human race form transient incidents. They have hinted at strange survivals in terms which would freeze the blood if not masked by a bland optimism. But it is not from them that there came the single glimpse of forbidden aeons which chills me when I think of it and maddens me when I dream of it.” - H.P. Lovecraft from “The Call of Cthulhu”

Podcast 26 - Jennifer Emick

September 16th, 2007 by rochester92

In this episode, Jennifer Emick, the guide to alternative religions on About.com, joins me to discuss the Alternative Religions web site, her interest in the esoteric and mystical side of religion, the importance of tolerance concerning religious views and practices, and the positive and negative aspects of spirituality. Her balanced perspective is appreciated as promoting both understanding and reasoned analysis.

Of particular interest are the ideas about the human flaws of spiritual teachers, as well as the degeneration of spiritual groups after the teachers depart. This is usually illustrated by the advancement in the significance of dogma. Jennifer also describes the struggle by witches for mainstream acceptance versus identification with past persecution. She notes how this recognition can result in a loss of freedom.

In addition, we touch upon the concept that most, if not all, religions originate from a teacher well-versed in the ancient Mysteries.
